ADI Part 3 Commentary Driving
For those training to become a driving instructor, Commentary Driving plays a huge role in teaching people to drive and to help them understand the reasons for doing something.
It is quite worrying the amount of trainee instructors who come for training, who cannot commentary drive.
In its simplest form Commentary driving is the ability to tell someone who is in a moving car, what to do and how to do it WHILST they are doing it.
The commonest example is when pupils are moving away from the side of the road for the first time. To help them get the correct lane position, Trainees will say to me "Steer right"
So i do full right lock - then they say "Steer Left!!" - so i do full left lock. The common response once we are a t the side of the road, safely pulled up, is "Well, I clearly didn't mean steer that much!"
Well what did you mean? Why is it obvious to someone who's never done it before?
So as my teacher - you want me to interperate what you say - rather than following your instruction?
